Professor of anxiety and behavior disorders at the University of Amsterdam

Ad de Jongh, Ph.D. is clinical psychologist, professor of anxiety and behavior disorders at the University of Amsterdam and honorary professor in psychology at the Institute of Health and Society of the University of Worcester. He is co-director in the Psychotrauma Expertise Center (PSYTREC), a mental health institution in Bilthoven that uses a short, and highly intensive treatment program for Complex PTSD. He is approved trainer for the EMDR Europe association, board member of the Dutch EMDR Association (VEN), and the EMDR Europe Association. He conducts research on the efficacy of evidence-based, trauma-focused treatments for a wide variety of patient groups, including traumatized children, people with intellectual disabilities and with other psychiatric conditions. He (co) authored more than 300 scientific articles/book chapters and 6 books on his areas of expertise.

Jonathan LEE

Senior Lecturer in School of Psychology at the University of Birmingham and Researcher

Jonathan Lee is a basic research behavioural neuroscientist interested in the mechanisms underlying the persistence of long-term memories. PhD in Experimental Psychology, University of Cambridge, where he has been a Lecturer, he moved to the University of Birmingham in 2008, where he is now Senior Lecturer in School of Psychology, and promising researcher of the Memory and Learning Group. He has published in Peer Reviewed Journals 38 papers. His current research focusses on the potential targeting of the memory destabilisation-reconsolidation process to reduce the impact of traumatic and addictive drug memories on anxious and drug-seeking behaviours. The retrieval of an existing memory can cause that memory to be destabilised, necessitating its reconsolidation. It may be possible to exploit this process to cause traumatic memories to be destabilised and their reconsolidation impaired to diminish their clinical impact; his research team has extensive supporting preclinical evidence in basic rodent models of aversive memories.

SACK, Martin, M.D., associated professor and research scientist, is at the head of the division of psychotraumatology at the department of Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy, Klinikum rechts der Isar, Technical University Munich.

2014/15 fellow at the Institute of Advanced Studies Berlin (Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin). 2000 research fellowship at the Trauma Center, Boston University Medical School (Prof. Bessel van der Kolk). 2008 EMDRIA Research Award. 2010 Hamburger Preis Persönlichkeitsstörungen. Clinical psychologist and a family therapist

Dr Michel Silvestre is a clinical psychologist and a family therapist who has been in private practice since 1999. EMDR Europe Accredited Child and Adolescent Trainer, member of the EMDR Europe Child & Adolescent Section Committee, founding member and past-president of EMDR France, he is graduate of the Mental Research Institute, Palo Alto, California and Senior Lecturer at the School of Psychology, Universities of Aix-en-Provence and Metz, France. He wrote several books and articles about psychotrauma and EMDR, and particularly “EMDR for the Next Generation, Healing Children and Families” (2013, Academic Publishing International Limited) and “l’EMDR pour l’enfant traumatisé et sa famille (2015, Dunod), both co-writed with J. Morris-Smith.

Drs. Joany Spierings (1954) is a Psychologist and a Psychotherapist, working in the Mental Health Service for 37 years, specializing in complex trauma and complicated grief.

She is the team coordinator of the Trauma team of GGZ Oostbrabant. She is a teacher in post-academic training, and a presenter at many national and European EMDR-Conferences. She has taught in over 25 countries worldwide.

She is involved in EMDR since 1994, she is a senior supervisor (Consultant) and EMDR supervisor trainer.

She is a founding member of EMDR Europe and the Dutch EMDR Association, and vice-President of the Humanitarian Assistance Program, HAP-Europe.

EMDR Trainer and Psychologist

Andrew M. Leeds, Ph.D. is a licensed Psychologist with over 40 years of private practice experience. He completed EMDR training in 1991. He has conducted EMDR training for 13,000 clinicians in the USA, Canada, Europe, and Japan and presented at numerous conferences. He is the author of the 2016 book, A Guide to the Standard EMDR Therapy Protocols, journal articles and book chapters. He served as Director on the EMDRIA Board 2003-2005. He serves on the Journal of EMDR Editorial Board and is Director of Training for Sonoma Psychotherapy Training Institute, offering EMDRIA and EMDR Europe approved basic training in EMDR. In 1999, he received the Ronald Martinez Memorial Award from Francine Shapiro and EMDRIA’s award for creative innovation and in 2013 EMDRIA’s Francine Shapiro Award.

Dr Derek Farrell is a Principal Lecturer in Psychology at the University of Worcester (UK) where he is Course Director of a MSc EMDR Therapy programme (the world’s first such programme). He is an EMDR Therapy Europe Accredited Senior Trainer and Consultant, a Chartered Psychologist with the British Psychological Society, and an Accredited Psychotherapist with the British Association of Cognitive & Behavioural Psychotherapies (BABCP). He is Past-President of the EMDR UK & Ireland Board, President of Trauma Aid Europe, Co-Vice President of EMDR Europe Board and Chair of the EMDR Europe Practice Committee.

He has been involved in a number of Humanitarian Trauma Capacity Building programmes in Pakistan, Turkey, India, Cambodia, Myanmar, Thailand, Indonesia, Lebanon, Poland, Palestine and Iraq. His PhD in Psychology was researching survivor’s experiences of sexual abuse perpetrated by clergy and consequently has written several publications on this subject matter. In 2013, Derek was the recipient of the ‘David Servan Schreiber Award’ for Outstanding Contribution to EMDR Therapy. In addition, Derek was also shortlisted for the prestigious Times Higher Education Awards (2017) for International Impact due to his Humanitarian Trauma Capacity Building work in Iraq with the Free Yezidi Foundation and the Jiyan Foundation for Torture and Human Rights.

Clinical psychologist and EMDR Europe pratictioner, Stéphanie KHALFA holds a doctorate in Neuroscience and is a CNRS researcher at the Neuroscience Institute of la Timone, in Marseille, France. She works on psychotrauma and EMDR therapy and is looking to understand the effects of EMDR therapy on the brain using brain imaging techniques such as functional magnetic resonance imaging. She is also trying to understand the neural mechanisms underlying the effectiveness of EMDR.
